Program Options
Historically, the Florham Park District had been providing a half day kindergarten program. In 1989 – 1990, a local district committee
studies the preference for the length of the school day and feasibility for implementation, as it relates to all day or extended day
kindergarten. It was the consensus of the committee that preference should be given to implementing the extended day kindergarten.
It was also agreed that the program be evaluated within two years to entertain the change of program in all day kindergarten.
During the winter of 1993, the primary building administrator and kindergarten teachers were asked to evaluate the present program.
The building administrator gave several recommendations in implementing an all day kindergarten. The kindergarten staff was also
asked to provide recommendations, as the program was reviewed at the board of education curriculum committee meeting.
Based on a unanimous decision to commit to an all day kindergarten program, the committee returned to the full board of education
with a recommendation. On March 12, 1993 the board approved the all day kindergarten program. The Superintendent of Schools was
directed to implement the program for the 1993 – 1994 school year. Since that time, the kindergarten staff reviewed and revised
the curriculum as two separate occasions. In addition, the district has also made current the initial screening process employed
to determine individual needs.
